American Airlines has officially begun its first-ever service to Cap-Haitien, Haiti. The carrier’s first daily flight touched down in Cap-Haitien on Thursday morning, with Haiti President Michel Martelly, Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe and Tourism Minister Stephanie Villedrouin all in tow. The new flight could be a boom for Haiti’s renewed tourism hopes; Cap-Haitien is close to the home of one of the Caribbean’s most famous historical Fortress, Haiti’s Citadelle Laferiere, which has been largely off the radar of travelers for decade.
