HELP HAITIAN MIGRANTS IN THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC ADJUST THEIR STATUS

Miguel Martinez, president of the Association of Dominican Residents in Haiti, explains that efforts must be made to strengthen solidarity across the island. Martinez, who arrived to Haiti stresses that Haitians and Dominicans are facing similar conditions on the island and abroad as migrants. Martinez explains, "Some Dominicans are in transit in Haiti," citing that many work in factories in free trade zones enduring deplorable conditions. After months of working in Haiti, many Dominicans return empty handed to their families despite efforts to save economic resources, says Martinez. He also spoke of the conditions facing Dominican migrants in Puerto Rico, mentioning that much of the discrimination they face is similar to the Haitian experience in the DR.
