North Miami, FL – March 28, 2007 – Jean Monestime formally launched his campaign at a kick-off party earlier this month, pledging to create a unified city that serves all residents. A long-time community activist, Monestime is a two-time councilman for the city of North Miami and a successful businessman.
Monestime’s work with small business development and organizations that serve all residents of North Miami has won him the support of many powerful political and community leaders. This group includes former County Commissioner Dr. Barbara Carey-Shuler, State Rep. Wilbert “Tee” Holloway (District 103), State Rep. Ronald A. Brisé (District 108), Miami Dade County Commissioner Audrey Edmonson, School Board member Dr Solomon Stinson, Councilman John P. Julian and Mayor Mariette Saintvil.
In a standing-room-only kick-off celebration, Jean Monestime was joined by prominent members of North Miami’s Haitian community, including councilman Jacques Despinosse, councilwoman Marie Steril, African-American community leaders and others.
“North Miami is on the verge of greatness and the right leadership will ensure we rise to our potential and that every resident is a beneficiary of all we accomplish,” said Jean Monestime. “As Mayor, I will make sure our growth is steady, measured and brings more to the residents and businesses of North Miami,” he added.
Well-respected throughout the city, Jean Monestime was first elected to the North Miami council in October 2002 by special election and was re-elected in 2003 to a full four-year term. A married father of two, Monestime is also president of JEMO Enterprises and JEMO Realty, Inc. He is an outspoken advocate, in both the public and private sectors, on issues regarding fair immigration and economic development. Monestime also serves on several city and county boards, such as North Miami Mayor’s Economic Task Force and the Minimum Housing Appeal Board of Miami-Dade County.
As a former school teacher, the well-being of children is near to Jean’s heart. He proposes more green space and parks in North Miami, as well as a larger police force to continue to decrease crime in the area. Elections will be held Tuesday, May 8, 2007.
