THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY

The party has roots in Thomas Jefferson democratic-republican party, and historians believed democrats also trace back to Andrew Jackson, who defeated Federalist John Quincy Adams in 1828. The first national convention took place in 1832. They nominated Jackson. The donkey has never been officially adopted. For 20 years Franklin D Roosevelt and Harry Truman (1933-53) was the longest period one party held the White house in the 20th century.
