There will be psychological burdens due to witnessing poverty and violence, at a level unknown in the U.S. This handbook is intended as a guide and reference for unit Commanders and NCOs. It includes pointers for sustainment of health and performance throughout predeployment, deployment, operations, and redeployment. It addresses a broad range of important health issues including: nutrition hydration, managing work and environmental exposure, avoiding disease hazards, and maintaining morale in the face of human suffering.Page 25
c. At the first evidence of heat illness, have the soldiers stop work, get into the shade, and rehydrate. Early intervention is important. Sick soldiers who are not taken care of early become more serious casualties.d.

Ti kanè adrès plen adrès ak nimewo telefòn ke mwen pa t make okenn lòt kote, tanpri, lage li nan machin lan pou mwen, si nou ap ban mwen li, oubyen voye l nan radyo Metwopòl, bwat postal 62 oubyen radyo Kiskeya, Ri Pave. Mèsi davans. Anpil moun di, mesye pa mwen yo pa t pi mal, paske mwen sot vivan se vre, men machin nan mwen pa genyen an, mwen mouri nan fim nan!

Finalman se sèl jan François Latour ka reyaji paske zenglendo yo opere lib e libè, e anpil fwa lapolis konn tou pre. E ou pa menm kapab konte sou yo pou rejwenn afè w.

The Caribbean Hall of Fame

Jacques Roumain
“Rumanian Jacques joined together in him almost all the favours of nature: an advantageous physique, an elegant port, a beautiful face lengthened with the dye coffee with milk, a full face and a nervous disposition sheltering a talent well balanced and a spirit with the varied gifts, suited to sciences as much as with the letters”. North Miami, FL – March 28, 2007 – Jean Monestime formally launched his campaign at a kick-off party earlier this month, pledging to create a unified city that serves all residents. A long-time community activist, Monestime is a two-time councilman for the city of North Miami and a successful businessman.
Monestime’s work with small business development and organizations that serve all residents of North Miami has won him the support of many powerful political and community leaders. This group includes former County Commissioner Dr. Barbara Carey-Shuler, State Rep. Wilbert “Tee” Holloway (District 103), State Rep. Ronald A. Brisé (District 108), Miami Dade County Commissioner Audrey Edmonson, School Board member Dr Solomon Stinson, Councilman John P. Julian and Mayor Mariette Saintvil.
In a standing-room-only kick-off celebration, Jean Monestime was joined by prominent members of North Miami’s Haitian community, including councilman Jacques Despinosse, councilwoman Marie Steril, African-American community leaders and others.
“North Miami is on the verge of greatness and the right leadership will ensure we rise to our potential and that every resident is a beneficiary of all we accomplish,” said Jean Monestime. “As Mayor, I will make sure our growth is steady, measured and brings more to the residents and businesses of North Miami,” he added.

INSIDE THE FRAME

The countryside never hints at the 21st century. Neither modern structures nor sounds of industry interrupt the serene poverty. The sensation is at once as beautiful as it is tragic. Did time along with everything and everyone else just forget this corner of the world?

SCHOLARSHIPS FOR UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS

SCHOLARSHIPS FOR UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS
All scholarships are open to enrolled students (freshmen excluded) who are pursuing careers in radio and television news. Winners of the Ed Bradley, Carole Simpson, Lou & Carole Prato Sports Reporting and Mike Reynolds Scholarships also receive an expenses-paid trip to the RTNDA International Conference. Candidates must be a full-time college student whose career objective is electronic journalism and have at least one full year of college remaining. To receive an award, winners must be officially enrolled in college and be in good standing. Scholarships are paid in semi-annual installments for one year of study.

The Ed Bradley Scholarship
Ed Bradley, 60 Minutes correspondent at CBS News, was once a teacher and made a switch to journalism. Bradley spoke of introducing deserving minority students to the communications career field and endowed this $10,000 annual award under the banner of RTNDF.

A paradigm shift is needed.

March 2, 2007
Sen. Hansen Clarke from Detroit is a visual artist who primarily paints in oils. Recently, he donated a painting to COTS (the Coalition On Temporary Shelter). It is a program that houses the homeless, addresses their needs and supports them in moving from homelessness to housing and stability.
Senator Clarke is also setting up a scholarship fund that will help send disadvantaged inner city youths to a college prep school. Named after his mother, the Thelma Clarke Opportunity Program is his way of giving back to society. "That's what makes this country so great. We have an opportunity to invest in one another." Along my readings I was able to pick up on those paragraphs, and believe that as Haitians living abroad , now is the time to invest in Haiti. Haitians living abroad propped up the economy of their impoverished Caribbean homeland by sending more than $1.65 billion in cash to relatives last year, according to a report from the Inter-American Development Bank. That sum represented twice Haiti's national budget and 30 percent of its gross domestic product, said Jean Geneus, Haiti's minister in charge of Haitians living abroad. Terry said an estimated $400 million in food and other gifts were also sent home by Haitians living abroad, bringing the total remittances to more than $2 billion.

Haiti, a former French colony trying to establish democracy after decades of violence, dictatorship and military rule, is the poorest country in the Americas. Most of its 8 million people scrape by on less than $2 a day.

Haitians living abroad complain Haiti welcomes their money but not their participation in politics. Haitians abroad could not vote in the last election because there were no absentee ballots and those with dual citizenship cannot vote or run for office because the constitution considers them foreigners.

The tides are changing and there are a lot of Haitians living abroad that are not U.S citizens. Those of us that have become US citizens will lend the support needed to also have a say in the political and the development process that will use those resources that we are so ready to give to the Haitian homeland.

Let’s unite behind the biggest challenges of self preservation that is our homeland that our children should inherit and cherish this beautiful country that is Haiti.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH MANNO SANON.

The team's first game was against Italy, finalists in 1970, and led by
goalkeeper Dino Zoff who had just completed 12 consecutive internationals
without conceding a goal.

"Everybody was asking who would beat Dino Zoff. The newspapers mentioned
European and South American players, but nobody thought a Haitian could do
it. That upset me because I knew I could do it."

The Haitian team surpassed all expectations by holding Italy to 0-0 in the
first half. Two minutes into the second half, Manno shocked everyone but
himself.

"With my pace, you can't leave me with just one defender, but that is what
happened. I was one-on-one with Spinosi. I received a pass from Phillipe
Vorbe. I beat the defender with my speed. One-on-one with Dino Zoff, and
the goal was wide open. I dummied to go left, and then went right. I
rounded him, and rolled the ball into the net."

The police recovered 63 people from the vessel after it capsized less than a kilometre south of Providenciales Island in the Atlantic Ocean. The island belongs to the Turks and Caicos, a British territory.

Survivors told police there had been about 150 people aboard the boat, the Coast Guard said. The police boat, guided by the Coast Guard helicopter, also rescued 10 people who were found clinging to the hull of the capsized vessel.
